you are missing the point. by your dismissal of the torah in Leviticus and also the fact there is no clear verses where it says that beer consumption is to be nil. I can make the arguments you use for tats to make a Christian bar concept.

I'm not 'dismissing' the Torah in Leviticus, but clearly preachers do shave! It would not be consistent of preachers to condemn tattoos on the basis of Leviticus 19 and then to shave, and for their wives to paint their lips and put rings in their pierced ears (I'm not arguing against these).

I do think motive for getting a faith based design does count for something. Some Christians find them helpful in witness.

Blessings.

ok, fine. I will play devils advocate for the Christian bar.
1) the only sin is to be drunk. yet you say one drink is bad or two.
2) therefore, giving that one or two beers or how many that doesn't lead to the stupor isn't a sin and given many Christians go to sports events, restaurants, and drink a few without getting drunk its ok to have a Christian bar.

what makes that wrong? I will tell you. beer tends to make one addicted to it. the definition of addiction need not and doesn't mean one gets drunk all the time just that one cant function without it. does that apply to tats? yes indirectly. tats while yes could argue that one can as many do not sin with it. but and its way more likely since well the world artistic nature of movies and so forth means that other things then Christ will be placed on the body. this would lead to going to non Christian parlors where imagery seen may not be so appropriate. ie a local tattoo parlor and note the not so Christian imagery of Halloween things. while im not for Halloween nor against it. I prefer not to bother with it but to appease my family I go along. that is another thing but there is images there that may of idols. im sorry isn't idolatry a sin? yes.

that parlor is one of three that I know are on the city grid. I see that place once a month. I have seen some of the work as they wear it walking out of the place when I pass by walking.

Like I said, I agree with you about alcohol.

I don't think I would 'blame' a non-alcohol-drinking person for alcohol if the person has a tattoo, though, and vice-versa.

Kind of apples and oranges, really.

I looked up the link. They have quite a few skull designs on display, anyway. Do you think that skulls are always bad? I've heard of some good definitions and aspects of skull symbolism, anyway.

Blessings.

oh theres more then just skulls. they go dark. I have seen some of it.yet the argument could be made and supported that beer church is doable. it really can. silly as just as silly as it is for to think that tats wont lead to sin. do you think they don't paint nude pics on flesh? do you think that they don't also have the mags with the what I call porn lite in them.that is where you just don't get it. lets say theres a Christian only tat parlor in west palm beach florida. but due to economics I go to inkslangers to get my bible verses put on.( I believe my sil went there for hers). why do you think that's ok?

honeslty I could put 666, on me and it wouldn't phase me at all. I could also do the necronomicron as well but I know they have no power and I could by your thinking use them to say that the devil has no power over me and that is why have that on me. I don't live like the Satanists . by you asking me about this and thinking I was Satanist shows me that you thought I was a devil worshipper when its my way of flaunting the enemy. I have seen friends on fb get tats of things to show that didn't take them down. thus why I said this.

I don't have a problem with your SIL going to get Bible ref.s or whatever. And and Christian tattoo artist can presumably have some input into what s/he designs.

Re. skulls, Bhakti Satalkar writes:
Skull tattoos for women can mean, that the wearer of the tattoo is not afraid of death. At the same time, she is filled with life ... The soft and feminine women who want a skull tattoo, opt for skull tattoos which are combined with flowers. The flowers can range from rose to hibiscus to lilies, etc. .. Women also opt for skull tattoos, which are combined with smiley's. It is an indicator, that the woman is not afraid of facing the world, but yet is gentle.
I can see how such thoughts could be adapted to certain Bible verses also.

Again I agree about your comment on alcohol, etc., but it seems to be apples and oranges.

Blessings.

uhn. you make the case for me.

simple:
I could by that do these:
1) place all manner of demonic imagery on my flesh and "claim" that im over it and its would be ok maybe for me but really a non Christian will see the demons and think im not a Christian but a freak or rebel like them
2) you have said that its wrong for me to place the 666 on my person, images of the devil and so forth. yet now you have just undermined that. I have problem with that. theres simply no need for one to do that. one doesn't have to describes ones past fully to share that we did overcome that. the bible doesn't when it mentions lusts describes the sin of adultery(no porno images or romance story like imagery) why is that? because it not to be talked about as it leads to temptation.tatoos fall in the same thing. can you imagine if I placed the 666 on my avatar the responses I would get or in reports? if that offends you(I don't by the mark as you but I still don't like the idea of it) why wouldn't doing the tat thing you just justified for me also not offend you?

I'm not talking about 666, etc.

I only mentioned skulls because of their prominence in the link you posted.

But faith based designs can be all sorts; and the question of motive surely counts for something as well.

Blessings.

you just made the slipper slope argument for it. you said that death symbolized by skulls can be used by the saint to mean something. I can also say the same about demonic imagery. since I was into the occult. what is the difference? nothing but your personal preference. you really don't get this. do you really think that Christian would put 666, on his body or hers or a demon and say these once had me?

I agree, I think.

Not sure where you are going with the argument.

well then if its just motive then why the need to do it if can cause men and women to stumble.

1) saint was addicted to porn(most wouldn't do this) and has a tattoo of a porn image on his or her chest and you woudnt assume that he or she was saved
2) saint was a Satanist and has no tats and gets one of the satanic bible, and now preaches and has it on his arm. you don't know him or her and wouldn't assume that he or she was a Christian as they can have upside down cross or other blaspheme
3) saint has images of any thing they were into.

I just don't see the need for that but you have argued for that to be.

Not sure I completely follow.

As well as avoiding stumbling others, Romans 14 includes the idea of respecting other believers' honest intentions. Where those intentions are evangelistic (such as with faith based tattoo designs) one would presumably include these, too.

Blessings.

ok. if you say so. but the first impession of man who looks like a demon may not be the impression any saint would want to make. im sure men and women who have done that to themselves come to Christ and that's one thing but another to make yourself look like one just to tell others don't do it.

my point is that you don't know, its best to avoid all appearance of evil.placing icons of demons is akin to idolatry. you may not worship it but remember romans 14 also swings to the way against stumbling and these will cause more stumbling then blessing. im sure if I posted the upside cross on my avatar and posted as I do . you if YOU didn't know me might think me to be a troll. you do know my past so likely wouldn't but a person who sees it the first time may not. that is the whole point!

I'm not arguing for demon representations, not at all.

But if a person is, say, motivated for a Christian fish sign <><, etc., on a wrist, this would seem to be different, according to my two cents'.

Blessings.

Seems like some people get them that never thought they would; or get their first one after decades of not having any.

Well, at age 17, my son wanted a tattoo....being that I have "ONE"..I sat my son down and we talked....I got my first tattoo when I was 46..I along with my father who at the time was 71 and my three sisters all got our first tattoo together...we all got a family tattoo. And just this past year, ..my 71 year old mother got one .. I told him that if he did get a tattoo, that I would not only go along with him, but I would also pay for it under one condition...that I had to approve of the tattoo...his design was a cross with a banner on it ..How could I not approve?
