| Customerreview | Holy Bible from the Eastern Text ![]() I had one of these Bibles before but misplaced it. The text is very easy to understand and I noticed comparing it to the NIV it is not that much different. I do enjoy reading this version much more than the King James. It clears up some of the meanings of the parables that Jesus spoke about. This "bible" is garbage ![]() George Lamsa's translation (to use the word in the loosest sense possible) is one of the most biased translations that I have come across, in my several different versions of the bible I have purchased. Lamsa has a footnote for Matt 8:21 stating that "bury my father" actually means to "take care of my father." This is not the case, Lamsa doesn't want Jesus to appear to be cruel the fact is this is not an Aramaic idiom just a private interpretation. Lamsa's biased reading of the scriptures included Jesus healing lunatics instead of casting out demons in Matt 8:28 these men were demon possessed, obviously Lamsa does not believe in the spirit realm and spiritual warfare. In Matt 5:39 Lamsa has a footnote for the "turn the other cheek" he claims that it is an Aramaic idiom meaning "Do not start a quarrel or a fight." Lamsa is refuted by his own biased bible because Jesus nor Stephen, Paul or any of the disciples ever fought back or defended themselves with the exception of Peter who was rebuked by the Lord. His pro-divorce spin of Matt 19:9 "'but I say to you, Whoever leaves his wife without a charge of adultery and marries another commits adultery: and he who marries a woman thus separated commits adultery." This is refuted by his translation of verse five and six of the same chapter. This is also nonsensical, because he has Jesus saying that you can leave your wife with just a charge of adultery and marry another and not commit adultery. Also how can it be adultery if you marry a women who is separated because a charge of adultery; Further he is contradicted in his own bible by Mark 10:11, 12 and Luke 16:18. This is just some of the problems that this bible version has and I just covered some of the problems with Matthew, there are many other problems I won't get to. I am upset at myself for not doing a thorough background search on George Lamsa, if I had done so I would have realized that his Aramaic is different from the Aramaic spoken in biblical times and that he believes in many unbiblical teachings and is not a real Christian, even when you judge him from the point of his own bible translation. It is a good thing that most Christians are not aware of his bible and adopt his private interpretation has scripture. Now that I have reviewed this book it is going in the trash can where it belongs. Why don't churches consider this translation? ![]() I first heard about this version of the Bible, that it was a more accurate translation from the original Aramaic. It has a few verses that having this translated from the original language changes the entire meaning, to become more meaningful. I wish churches would consider adopting this as the official translation of the Bible instead of what they presently have. This seems more accurate, and I would think accuracy with the word of God would be the most important thing. Holy Bible:from the Acient Eastern Text ![]() The delivery was quicker then I thought possible, with a thank you note, and in a condition far better than one would have expected. Great Bible but no in depth word explainations from Aramaic ![]() To be honest with you , I thought it would be written different than it is. When doing word studies in Hebrew , I was shown a more in depth understanding of the scripture than this Bible does. This Bible in Aramaic did not do any word studies and when compared to Hebrew word studies , the words were different and had different meanings. When doing word studies in Aramaic the meaning of the scriptures are different that what this Bible says. Basically I was expecting something that would give the meaning of the Aramaic words in more detail. To be fair I can say this Bible is great reading and I would rate this kind of Bible at one of the highest ratings I could give. I just expected something different than what I received. |
