The flu is a general term for a number of different viruses that mutate into new strains every year. Its tough to eliminate because so many people have it. Those with strong immune systems tend to insist on going about their daily activities when they are contagious, because it is only a minor nuisance to them. Parents send their children to school sick because they can't afford to take a few days off work to care for them at home. It soon spreads to hundreds of their classmates. Ditto for people going to work sick. Its just not taken seriously by people with strong immune systems, and tens of thousands of vulnerable people are zapped every year because of this attitude. Many people won't even get a flu shot to protect the vulnerable, because they themselves are in no danger from the flu. They won't do it to protect other people.

Flu vaccines help a bit. They are not a total solution. People staying home from work and school when they are contagious would help too. As well as making Tamiflu OTC and thus inexpensive to obtain.

Yet no one suggest a quarantine on the flue ,get shots each year even if the batch is years old.hmmm that's my,point and my,wife can't take tammiflu.

Maybe they should do the quarantine thing globally for a year or two. They might eliminate the flu, which zaps 500,000 or so people per year globally. It would have to be global though. Otherwise it would spread again. No one has the power to enforce a global quarantine, so it doesn't get done.

And who would pay sub contractors ,the self employed for lost time ?I have thrown papers and read meters while recovering from the flue.I got no sick days throwing papers

You don't breathe/cough on the public when throwing papers, or reading meters. That's not the kind of job that would require you to stay home. Its people who deal with the public who should be careful not to cough on them.

A general quarantine would be worked out in advance, as far as compensatory pay. Whole cities are locked down in China right now. They are surviving.

An honest dollar and return to free market capitalism would help the average person to finally go forward again.

You,ignore greed.no one forces us to keep up with the Jones. I spent a lot but I could,afford it . looking back ,however ,I wish I didn't . that said bankers pass rental control laws,price controls,housing right laws?all which do,the opposite .
