Bible Study John on Patmos in a type of OT Tabernacle Revelation 1:10-13

For this study, I want to take a look at Reve 1:10, 12, 13. [I do not dwell on when Revelation was visioned or written, but what it would symbolize to Hebrew Jews/Israelites of today if they were to read it.]

These verses have so much significance concerning the OT types and shadows. This is from my own personal studies, dating back to 2003.

For my 1st post, I would like to give a general outline surrounding this type of "holy place" John is in, then elaborate more on this in following posts. I welcome input from other Christians on this.
Blessings, Steve

Revelation 1:
10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's Day, and I heard behind<3694> me a loud Voice, as of a trumpet,
12 Then I turned<1994> to see the Voice that spoke with me. And having turned<1994> I saw seven golden Lampstands<3087>,
13 and in the midst of the seven Lampstands [One] like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the paps with a golden band.

I can vision John standing inside a symbolic Tabernacle/Sanctuary on Patmos. [John would probably be a Hebrew Jew and perhaps even of a priestly class].
He then hears a Voice BEHIND him.
He TURNS and sees Jesus in midst of lamp-stands. ["turn" can also mean convert]

Symbolically, [this is just my view],
John would have been facing the OC Table of Showbread. ..North.
The Golden Altar and inner curtain would have been on his left...West
Then he turns and faces Jesus and the lamp-stands...South
The outer veil/entrance would then be on his left .....East [facing toward the Mount of Olives from Herod's 1st century Temple]

In essence, John is first facing the Table of the OC Table of Show-bread and when he turns, he sees the NC "Living Bread", Jesus, as testified of Jesus by John in chapt 6:

John 6:
35 And Jesus said to them, “I Am the Bread of Life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.
48 I Am the Bread of Life.
51 I Am the Living Bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this Bread, he will live forever. And this Bread, which I will give for the Life of the World, is My flesh.”

This is the only event I could find in the NT where it actually shows a Priest performing services in the Tabernacle/Sanctuary of the LORD. That Priest was the future father of John the Baptist, who was visited by Gabriel.
This particular scene was at the hour of the Incense/Perfume.

2368. thumiama thoo-mee'-am-ah from 2370; an aroma, i.e. fragrant powder burnt in religious service; by implication, the burning itself:--incense, odour...... [occurs 6 times in 6 verses]

Luke 1:5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest, by name Zacharias, of the course of Abijah, and his wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name Elisabeth; 6 and they were both righteous before God, going on in all the commands and righteousnesses of the Lord blameless, 7 and they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and both were advanced in their days.

8 And it came to pass, in his acting as Priest, in the order of his course before God, 9 according to the custom of the Priesthood, his lot was to make perfume, having gone into the Sanctuary<3485> of the Lord,
10 and all the multitude of the people were praying without, at the hour of the Perfume<2368>.
11 And there appeared to him a Messenger of the Lord standing on the right side of the Altar of the Perfume,

19 And the Messenger answering said to him, ‘I Am Gabriel, who have been standing near before the God, and I was sent to speak unto thee, and to proclaim these good news to thee,

The Sanctuary and Golden Altar are both mentioned in Revelation, showing the Hebrew/Jewishness of Revelation.
Just as in Luke 1:11, Reve 8:3 also shows a Messenger at the Altar.

Revelation 8:3 and another Messenger did come, and he stood at the Altar, having a golden censer, and there was given to him much perfume, that he may give it to the prayers of all the Saints upon the golden Altar that is before the Throne,

Revelation 11:1 And was given to me a reed like-as rod saying "rouse! and measure! the Sanctuary of the God and the Altar and those worshiping in it. 2 And the Court outside of the Sanctuary be casting-out outside! and no it thou should be measuring, that it was given to the nations. And the holy City they shall be treading forty two months.

A nice utube vid on that Altar inside the 1st curtain of the Holy Place of the Sanctuary/Tabernacle.

Rev 1:1-20

John turns around and sees seven golden candlesticks or as they are called lamp stands in the Old Testament that stood before the altar of the throne. In the center of these candlesticks there is one like unto the Son of man. The voice that John heard at first declared I am Alpha and Omega. John now turns around to see that which was speaking to him was Jesus. He was clothed in a garment down to his feet. The garment represents Gods righteousness that is the robe of our salvation that is found in Jesus who sits at the right hand of the Father judging and making intercession for us before the Father, as Satan stands accusing the brethren before Him, Isaiah 61:10; Revelation 12:10. Jesus is as our Savior redeemer in whom we find our salvation through faith in Him.

The golden girdle around his breast indicates his importance as he wears it high up on his breast just as the Levitical priest wore their Ephod around their breast, Exodus 28:1-38. The golden girdle means we are joined with Jesus in judgment as our names are carved out through faith and Gods righteousness found in us as we are joined together with Jesus as heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus that we too will suffer with him that we may be also glorified together, Romans 8:17.

The golden girdle is bound to the breast as it also resembles Gods love for us that nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Jesus our Lord, Romans 8:37-39. Jesus has paid the ultimate price for our sin that we may be accepted before him through repentance and confession of faith in him.

Jesus hair was white as wool or snow. This shows his purity and freedom from sin as he lived on this earth a sinless man, Isaiah1:18. Daniel calls him the Ancient of Days sitting on his seat during his vision, Daniel 7:9. His eyes were as a flame of fire as even the darkness of sin can not hide itself from being seen of the Lord. Only God knows the intents of the heart and what drives the heart to evil.

The feet of Jesus are described as fine brass as if they were burned in the fire of a furnace and his voice as the sound of many waters. When you put the description of Jesus feet and his voice together this is the great power and authority of God that works through Jesus as he instructs his Church. Fine brass is a refining fire and the sound of many waters is the power of his word.

The seven stars are the seven spirits of God the angels carry to the seven Churches. The spirit of the Lord that rest upon the Church, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear (respect) of the Lord who is the Spirit of truth, Isaiah 11:2 The messages these seven angels carry to the seven Churches are given in a sense of a two edge sword warning as one side of Gods word brings blessings and the other side brings judgment of disobedience.

When John saw the full glory of the Lord he fell before His feet and became very still before Him like he was dead. Jesus reached out to touch John and told him not to fear as Jesus confirmed, I am the Alpha and Omega the living Christ. He told John he had the keys of hell and death which means those who sleep in the grave, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, that will be raised up in the first resurrection to meet Jesus in the clouds and have life eternal.

Those of the second resurrection who will be cast into the lake of fire with Satan, the beast and the false prophet on such the second death has no power of life eternal, Revelation 20:6, 11-15. The hidden truth of the seven stars and seven candlesticks are revealed to John as the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches and the seven candlesticks which he saw are the seven churches.
