Lexy had been thinking all summer about homeschooling Jake. So she has made the decision and got him signed up with A Beka. This is the same program we did with her for a couple of years. It's is from the Pensacola, FL Christian College. It's an advanced program and she did very well, outscoring others in her grade level in state testing.
Last year Jake did fine and made honor roll but we were not happy with what was actually achieved and this next year they get even heavier into common core math and English.
A Beka addresses this issue on their site. In examining the different methods used in common core, here is what they said..http://www.abeka.com/resources/commoncore.aspx
History classes in our public school appear to be more about adapting to the world than looking at history and civics and learning from it.
We are hoping the public school here co-operates with us by complying with state laws here that say Jake can attend classes at the school as well, such as PE and art. His one concern is about not seeing his friends so this approach should help with that.
As for me, I'm pleased as punch with her decision.
