Okay, that saves the Christian from the possibility of death, . . .but the laws were also given to those who had to punish these acts. If there was a call for the stoning of a rebellious son, why do we not do that today? Why do we not kill those who are witches? Why don't we kill those who work on the Sabbath, or commit adultery? If these were Laws set by God, and God never changes, then why aren't these sentences still caried out today by the church?
Here's my take on it. These laws were those laws founded by the rulers of the Hebrew people, and based many of them on the Hammurabi Code or some other cultural laws. I seriously don't believe that God wanted such penalties to be carried out. But to keep a group of people in line, I can see how a ruling counsel (or whomever) would create stiff laws to keep order.
