I just had a question pop up.

Anyone know how common world languages are decided on?

In biblical times, NT that is, seems Greek was the most common language. Now days it's English.

Is it a matter of majority domination? Have there ever been more than these two as dominate languages?

It's all about trade and finance and control.

Aramaic (during the time when Aram ruled the world) was really popular...And stayed when Babylon ruled.

Medo-Persian Empire kept Aramaic.

Then Alexander the Great changed it to Greek.

Roman Empire eventually changed Greek into Latin. (It was all about the spice trade)

When Europe became dominant the languages swapped between French and Spanish.

Today, because of the former British Empire (UK) and the pound Sterling (stable currency) followers by the Americans and their dollar English is the language of trade.
