The "Left Behind" narrative seems unbiblical

I don't agree with your assessment. I quoted Jeremiah above, and there is no indication nor implication he is talking about the antichrist as a child. If you think LaHaye is, then you should quote him and the context and show by clear reasoning why he means that. The text of 2 Thes. 2 clearly states "the man of lawlessness is revealed" - in which the context is clear, that he will be an adult in power.
Do you believe the anti-christ will be born a baby , and grow up to an adult ?

The "left behind" narrative appears to conflict with scripture. It places the "rapture" before the antichrist is revealed, but 2 Thes. 2:3 clearly places the "rapture" (1st resurrection) AFTER the antichrist is revealed.

This issue came up when I read a statement by (the very respected and knowledgeable) David Jeremiah: "No, the Bible does not tell us who the Antichrist will be. In fact, Paul tells us in the second chapter of [2] Thessalonians that this coming world ruler will not be revealed until after the Rapture of the church. 'So if you ever reach the point where you think you know who he is, that must mean you have been left behind.'" (quoting Tim LaHaye, and agreeing). Quoted from "The Book of Signs," p. 248.

But that scripture clearly states the opposite (2 Thes. 2:3) "Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed..."
"That day" is referring to v. 1 "the coming of our Lord and our gathering together to Him" (i.e., the "rapture", or the 1 Cor. 15 resurrection.
"the man of lawlessness" is obviously referring to The Antichrist (which is the beast of Rev. 13).

Before vs. after - can anyone explain this conflict?

I'm a skeptic when it comes to constructed chronologies of eshcatology. I would like to believe in the Pre-trib idea, but I'm having a rough time with it. I haven't found anything anywhere that adequately explains this conflict. All I've seen so far is assertions and opinions. Can anyone help?

Amen sir!

Good word.

The resurrection and the “rapture” (living people being caught up) occurs at the coming of the LORD.

For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 1 Thessalonians 4:15

The coming of the LORD is the Second Coming of Christ.

God wants to "bring many sons to glory." Another 1000 years would literally fill the world with people, possibly a million times more people than exist today, given the current population growth rate. It would take Jesus ruling "with a rod of iron" and His glorified saints ruling with Him to manage such a world. Since the question requires speculation, I think this should be an adequate answer.

But the issue of a literal millennium is the issue of how many resurrections there will be. If only one, then we should not expect a millennial reign. But if there are two (the first of the present saints and the 2nd of the rest of mankind), then there could well be a literal millennial reign with the last resurrection at the end of it. Amillennialists claim there is only one resurrection, while Millenialists claim there are 2 at least. Pre-tribbers claim there are several, I've heard up to 7. However, they don't claim any distinction between general resurrections (of a multitude), and special resurrections (Jesus, the 2 witnesses, some OT saints, et. al.) The resurrections described in 1 Cor. 15 and 1 Thes. 4 and 2 Thes. 2 is a general resurrection of the saints.
People are born everyday and die everyday. Only God knows when the timing of Christ return will happen as even Jesus does not know, Matthew 24:36.

Revelation 20:1-8 is the only passage in the entire scriptures that the premillinialists have as the basis for the 1000 year reign. Rev 20:4 doesn't speak about a 1000 year reign of Christ it says by the vision John received "and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years." It's not Christ that reigns 1000 years, but those who were killed for God's sake that reign with Christ a 1000 years as 1000 being a figurative number, not a literal number as in Deuteronomy 7:9; 1Chronicles 16:15; Psalms 50:10; 90:4; 105:8 Ecc 6:6; 7:28; Daniel 5:1; 2 Peter 3:8.

Those who reign with Christ are those souls that had been beheaded for their testimony of Jesus. In Revelations 6:9-11, are the souls of martyrs who had been slain for the word of God under an altar crying for vengeance. In Rev 20:4 the martyrs are on thrones. The difference between these scriptures is God's judgment has already come to those certain martyrs. The victory came in the spiritual realm of God, not the physical, and God assured their victory.

John was shown in a vision those souls that already had the victory over death as being in Christ. When we who are of Christ die before His return God has already passed judgement on us and we have the victory in Christ over that of the second death, 1 Corinthians 15:51-57. Those who are not of Christ will be judged and cast into the lake of fire. There is only one resurrection, but two judgements, John 5:28, 29. Those in Christ are raised first as those still alive at His coming will be gathered and caught up together to meet Christ in the air to be with Christ for eternity, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. The rest are then raised for their judgement as rejecting Christ and there forever have their place in the lake of fire. Rev 20:4 says nothing about Jesus coming to this earth and establishing a worldly kingdom at Jerusalem.

Rev 20:5
The rest of the dead are those of the other part of the resurrection that have been raised to damnation whose names are not found written in the Lamb’s book of life. The second death are those who rejected Christ and had no faith in God being Spiritually dead that are raised from their graves, Ephesians 2:1-10. Scripture never teaches two resurrections, but only one resurrection, John 5:28, 29; 6:40, and a second death being that of Spiritual death and hell being the grave are cast into the lake of fire, Rev 20:14, 15 as they had no Spiritual power over death. There are two separate judgments, but only one resurrection as everything from Rev 19-20 happens on the last day that has no ending. Those who are priest of God and will reign with Him are those of the Spiritual rebirth and indwelled with the Holy Spirit.

Living in Anticipation: Be Prepared for Jesus' Imminent Return

David Jeremiah" by David Jeremiah. TLDR Believers should live each day in ... — The Rapture is an imminent event that could happen at any moment.

Jesus says there will be no indication , such as the anti-christ being revealed, that will precipitate the faithful being caught up to be with Him in the air.
All conditions on earth will be honky -dory with everyone in their carnal comfort zones when without warning we which are alive are gone:

Mat 24:38-41

For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

So I take it you are amillennial. But your argument is not convincing to me. A prophecy in Zech. says that Jesus will descend on the Mt. of Olives and the mount will split in two. In Acts the angel said to the disciples that Jesus will come back in like manner as He left. It sure sounds literal to me. I think this is what the 2nd Advent is.

Do you believe the anti-christ will be born a baby , and grow up to an adult ?
What does that have to do with the price of tea in China? 2 Thes. 2 says clearly that the antichrist "will be revealed" before the resurrection of the saints, and that he will declare himself to be "god" in the temple. Are you disagreeing with that?

The question is who will this knowledge of the "man of lawlessness" be revealed to ?

One person ? A Group of people ? The whole world ?
Since the context has him going into the temple and declaring himself "god", isn't it obvious it will be at least to the Jews, if not the whole world? Why would he do such a thing unless he's got the whole world's attention? Isn't the context connected to Rev. 13 & 14, where he's got total dictatorship?

Thanks 😊 for this. Scripture makes it clear that the end of time will be just another day in human history with all the normal prosaic and some special human things happening…

Except that day will be The End. Frightening, really…

Why would Christians care about what's going on with Jewish worship in the Temple ?

The "left behind" narrative appears to conflict with scripture. It places the "rapture" before the antichrist is revealed, but 2 Thes. 2:3 clearly places the "rapture" (1st resurrection) AFTER the antichrist is revealed.

This issue came up when I read a statement by (the very respected and knowledgeable) David Jeremiah: "No, the Bible does not tell us who the Antichrist will be. In fact, Paul tells us in the second chapter of [2] Thessalonians that this coming world ruler will not be revealed until after the Rapture of the church.

Storms come from the west maybe south or north but still from the west. Below we see the storm has past by us rather the tribulation.

Matt 24
27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Again after the tribulation

28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

The clouds of heaven are Angels. For the dead rise first before the coming of Christ.

30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

What explanation does the post-tribulation adherent have for the dramatic difference between everybody expecting Christ's return according to the tribulation having to happen first , just before He comes, as compared to Jesus's Word saying everyone will be caught completely unaware and off guard , as in the days of Noah ?

We do not enter the Millennial Kingdom here on earth in our natural bodies, but in new glorified bodies, 1 Corinthians 15:51-54. When Christ returns in the air we are then caught up to meet Him in the air and so shall we ever be with the Lord as He has made us unto our God kings and priests and we shall reign on the earth as we rule with Him over the nations as His enemies have become His footstool in the end of days, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18; Rev 5:10; Psalms 110:1-4; Hebrews 10:12, 13.

Matthew 24:29-31; Rev 19:11-21 Jesus descends down from heaven with His army of the host (angels) of heaven as while remaining in the air He sends His angels out to the four corners of the earth to gather His own to Him. He will destroy the beast and false prophet casting them alive into the lake of fire, Rev 19:15, 16. The remnant in Rev 19:21 are the world leaders of every nation on the earth that have followed after the beast that rules their government. The remnant will be slain by the very words Jesus speaks of their damnation as the fowls will be filled with their flesh and at that time Satan will be chained and bound so he can not interfere with the ungodly people that are still alive on earth that become the footstool of Christ. Then the kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord and of his Christ and He shall reign for ever and the saints will begin to rule over the nations here on earth, Rev 11:15; 5:10; 20:1-3; Matthew 5:5.

Rev 20:7-10 Those that have rejected Christ that still remain on earth after the beast, false prophet and all the ruling leaders from every nation that followed after the beast are destroyed are those who are the numbering as the sand of the sea. These are the enemy of God that Satan uses to battle against the saints during the battle of Armageddon that are camped upon the breadth of the earth after he is released for a season, Psalms 2:7-10; 110; Ezekiel 36; 37; Rev 20:7-9. The saints are camped not only in Jerusalem the beloved city of God, but also throughout the breadth of the earth. It's only the 144,000 generational Jews that believe in Christ that have returned to Jerusalem. After the 1000 years are fulfilled Satan is set loosed for a season and goes out to deceive the nations as he gathers the enemies of Christ to battle against the saints as the numbering of unbelievers is like the sand of the sea. As the enemy surrounds the camp of the saints God sends fire down from heaven and destroys the enemy and Satan is cast into the lake of fire. Zechariah 14:1, 2; Luke 21:20 and Rev 16:16 mentions the battle of Armageddon when Christ and His army of angels return as Christ plants His feet on the mount of Olives for the final battle as Gog and Magog found in Ezekiel Chapter 38 is the battle of Rev 20:7-9.

(IMO 1000 years is a figurative number, not a literal number. It is figurative like the numbering in Deuteronomy 7:9; 1Chronicles 16:15; Psalms 50:10; 90:4; 105:8 Ecc 6:6; 7:28; Daniel 5:1; 2Peter 3:8.)

John 5:28, 29; Rev 20:11-15, now comes the Great White throne judgment as the books are opened with one of them being the Lamb's book of life where all the saints of God have their names written as they have part of the first resurrection of eternal life on such the second death hath no power, Rev 20:6; 1 Corinthians 15:54-57. The other book is opened being the book of damnation where the enemies of God that were killed while trying to destroy the camp of the saints are now joined with those enemies of Christ that were also raised from their graves and are reserved, 2 Peter 2:9, as now since they were condemned and judged will be cast into the lake of fire. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. While the saints are with Jesus the earth will be renewed and the New Jerusalem is ushered down from heaven, Rev 21.

Matthew 24:22 these days are shortened for a time that only God holds back or extends to allow His purpose for the last one to repent and turn back to Him before Christ returns, Rev 19, as God alone knows their name. Only God can shorten days like He did with Hezekiah as He caused the sundial to go backwards ten degrees, Isaiah 38:8, which was possibly five hours and again in Joshua 10:12-14 God extended the daylight for Joshua to defeat the Amorites.

Christ returns on the last day at the seventh trumpet and on that day His Bride being the collective body of believers through faith in Christ and sealed by the Holy Spirit unto the day of redemption will be caught up to Him. Both asleep in their grave and those who are alive at His coming will then be kept safe on that day while Christ fights the final battle casting the beast and false prophet into the lake of fire and slaying all those nations (people) who come out to fight against Him.
(John 5:25-30; 6:40; Ephesians 1:3-14;1 Corinthians 15:51-57; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Rev 19; Zechariah 14:1-6; Luke 21:20-22)

What explanation does the post-tribulation adherent have for the dramatic difference between everybody expecting Christ's return according to the tribulation having to happen first , just before He comes, as compared to Jesus's Word saying everyone will be caught completely unaware and off guard , as in the days of Noah ?
I will show you their explanation and Gods explanation. Even as it makes me cry below

Ezekiel 13

19 And will ye pollute me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not live, by your lying to my people that hear your lies?
20 Wherefore thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against your pillows, wherewith ye there hunt the souls to make them fly, and I will tear them from your arms, and will let the souls go, even the souls that ye hunt to make them fly.
21 Your kerchiefs also will I tear, and deliver my people out of your hand, and they shall be no more in your hand to be hunted; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
22 Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life:
23 Therefore ye shall see no more vanity, nor divine divinations: for I will deliver my people out of your hand: and ye shall know that I am the Lord.

Here's what millions say because they were lied to.

Revelation 6

9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

In the days of Noah many were told but they did not listen. And many are told that hears my voice but they were taught another, prevents them hearing. This why many are not ready. Jesus gives us all we need to be ready and they don' listen to Him.

The antichrist is the dragon.

Matthew 4
8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Are you saying you think that today's post-trib Christians are not aware that the Tribulation starts the clock ticking of Lord's return at the end of it ?

Why would Christians care about what's going on with Jewish worship in the Temple ?
Because of the OP - Paul wrote clearly that the Antichrist will declare himself "god" in the temple before the resurrections of the saints. Read carefully:
"No one is to deceive you in any way! For it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God."
"That day" = the coming of the Lord AND our gathering to Him
What comes FIRST = apostasy AND man of lawlessness is revealed AND he displays himself in the temple as God.

Is it clear?

What do you think 1000 years signifies?

Why would any Christian halfway around the world pay any attention at all to what a Jewish preacher giving instructions to Jewish worshipers from a Jewish building of worship says ?
I'd bet you are not even aware of what goes on in the Jewish Synagogue that is nearest to your location right now let alone on the other side of the planet ?
Unless of course you are Jewish ?
