I'm torn. I mean, OK...if you're pretty and you can make some $$$ out of it for school or whatever, maybe (?). But I hear pageant people are vicious, and it seems like a decidedly un-Christian subculture to be a part of.

I don't know much about pageants, but I don't see anything wrong with a Christian woman being apart of it. If the other contestants are nasty, then there's an opportunity to witness.

There have been numerous Christian women in the Miss America pageants, Miss Universe, etc.

I agree with Angel, that there are opportunities presented to witness to the other contestants. If nothing else, the Christian contestants have opportunity to pray for the other women in the pageants.

Beauty contests are shallow and emphasise false values. I don't care for whether the participants are male, female, christians, atheists, buddhists or whatever, and whether they walk around in underwear or in robes, it's simply an objectification of people.

Kind of like a Southern pageant idea, really, I think.

A lot of Christian young women from the South have at one time or another been involved in local pageants, etc.

My two cents': as long as the bikini line up, if they have one, doesn't involve two-pieces that are a bit too stringy... (I guess the bikini design isn't necessarily the organizers' responsibility but that of the individual contestant.)

Blessings.

Alright! How about that daughter that refused to dance naked/half naked before the king(s)??? What verse of the scripture...cant remember.

Or are there similarities?

Are you thinking of Vashti in the book of Esther? or Salome, who did dance?

Most young women who go to the beach wear bikinis that cover the posterior, crotch and the essential part of the chest, so it's not really a question of nakedness.

Blessings.

I think my intention wasnt clear on that issue of dancing thing. Sorry. I had wanted to tell us, there was a God-fearing woman who refused to dance. Reason? She said she wont defile her body - she wont get naked. So I was just trying to remember that verse. So while others danced, this woman refused to dance. She was not even punished

I don't recall a passage about naked dancing.

In any case, pageants don't normally involved naked dancing either.

The real problem is not the contest but the fact that most men cannot control their minds. This is why most men have a problem with a streetwealker coming into the church. They should be able to freely but what do most churchs do, cover them up right away so noone is tempted, seems to me that they need to deal with the men that cannot look on them without lusting rather than shame the women coming in by this and drive them out of the church. God never intended people to get cleaned up before they come in.

I guess those who might want to ban church outings to a beach 'in case' someone gets wrong thoughts need to figure that even if everyone wore sackcloth permanently, still there would be wrong thoughts. What needs to be changed by the grace of God is the heart.

PS: AirDancer:

If I'm not mistaken, those who have excelled at these competitions have often gone on professionally to be distinguished by using their other cultivated abilities in terms of mental qualities and capacities of judgment, etc.

So I guess that it's good to view the matter, that to excel in outward beauty is simply one of various complements to other, inward qualities also.

Blessings.

farouk. I was thinking about you and your tats this morning when I saw a girl who was well attractive and well rather wearing some low hip clothing and had a tat on her back.lol. this thread also reminds of that image. the problem with that is as tog says. men don't watch beauty contest for the intelligent women but for the attractive ones. I feel as claudya does.

I agree that some low hip clothing is over the top. In the end it's a question of context, I reckon.

Blessings.

well but the problem with this is that Christians will go with the fashions of society if they must win with them. that is where I draw the line. but seriously. an attractive girl in a bikini telling us about jesus is kinda strange as the male organ isn't going allow the brain to function normally if you catch my drift. im not saying that wearing a bikini is a sin but well you know where I live and what I do see on the beach when I go there.
