Trump fined $1,000 for gag order violation in hush money case as judge warns of possible jail time

NEW YORK (AP) — The judge presiding over Donald Trump’s hush money trial fined him $1,000 on Monday and warned of jail time for future gag order violations while jurors heard testimony for the first time about the financial reimbursements at the center of the case...

The $1,000 fine imposed Monday marks the second time since the trial began last month that Trump has been sanctioned for violating the gag order. He was fined $9,000 last week, $1,000 for each of nine violations.

“It appears that the $1,000 fines are not serving as a deterrent. Therefore going forward, this court will have to consider a jail sanction,” Merchan said before jurors were brought into the courtroom. Trump’s statements, the judge added, “threaten to interfere with the fair administration of justice and constitute a direct attack on the rule of law. I cannot allow that to continue.”

Trump is on trial for allegedly falsifying business records, but the jury has now heard details of him engaged in something akin to nonconsensual sex.

Daniels said she was not drunk or under the influence of drugs, but she described feeling strange and not having a grasp on the sequence of events.

Trump’s defense lawyers were clearly upset that Daniels kept offering details and opinions about the encounter far beyond the claim of the two having a sexual encounter — particularly since the testimony about that sex came after the judge had explicitly urged the prosecutor not to go into a lot of details in front of the jury.

You'd have to ask the prosecutor that. My guess, and yes it's just my guess, is that he wants to show the jury the gravity of the information that the Grump forces were working to hide in all of this transfer of monies recorded for various and sundry other expenses. I mean, if it wasn't some really tawdry account, then the question would be asked, "Well, why would he be trying to hide this from coming out in public?" So the prosecutor is giving the jury the understanding of just how damaging this information might have been, and certainly seems to have been perceived to have been by the players in it, had they not tried to cover it all up. Therein lies the crime. The cover-up.

It's the same thing that brought Pres. Nixon down. The cover-up.

I can see it in 20 years. There will be statues to the man in every public square. We'll pass a law that forever and ever unto eternity, United States paper currency will have to have the signature of the great Donald J. Grump. The MAGAites will win and we'll all live behind quaint white picket fences with an apple tree in the yard and children playing. There will be the dreaded blue sector where all the leftist, homo, pinko slags live. Jesus will sit back down and God will do some more creating because the republicans fixed all that's wrong with this world.

That seems to be the picture that the MAGA movement is looking to recreate. They just don't understand that we had that. That dream life that they want to recreate, we already had. And we got here because we were there. People who lived then had the opportunity to make choices and those choices led to where we are now. If we go back there, and still have the same freedom of choices, won't we be right back here pretty shortly? I mean, it's not like one day someone drank a cup of poison and we wound up here. But if we go back there and don't allow the cup of poison to be taken will we change the future to always be what I approve of?

Donald isn't on trial for rape or sexual assault in this case. That was an earlier case where he was found liable for sexual assault against E. Jean Carroll.

In this case he's being charged with basically falsifying business records as part of a scheme to hide the hush money payments he made to the porn actress. The prosecution is arguing that he made those payments to aid his campaign, which would make them a campaign expenditure, but falsified paperwork to make them seem like normal business expenses.

And remember, he was doing all this while married to his third wife Melania. What a great guy, eh?

And I have no idea what any of that is talking about. I don't think he was successful at covering it up. You do know that he did have sexual relations with that woman... right?
